U.S. House Candidate Mike Sodrel (IN-9) Pledges to Support Official English if Elected to Congress

March 25, 2008

U.S. English, Inc. today recognized former Congressman Mike Sodrel, a candidate for the seat in Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District, for pledging to support official English legislation. Sodrel’s pledge is consistent with his past co-sponsorship of official English legislation while serving in the 109th Congress.

Sodrel’s opponent, Congressman Baron Hill, has not yet co-sponsored H.R. 997, current legislation that would make English the official language of the United States. During his four terms in the House, Congressman Hill has neither co-sponsored nor voted for official English measures.

“Mike Sodrel understands that the English language is the unifying bond for the diverse populations of Indiana and the United States,” said Mauro E. Mujica, Chairman of U.S. English, Inc. “At a time when some politicians are trying to separate our diverse society along language lines, we need more common sense voices like Mike Sodrel in Washington.”
