Rep. Ken Calvert is Newest Co-Sponsor of H.R. 997

March 16, 2009

California Representative Ken Calvert became the newest co-sponsor of H.R. 997 today, bringing the number of supporters of legislation to make English the official language of the United States to 105.

A member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1993, Rep. Calvert currently represents the 44th Congressional District of California. Prior to dedistricting in 2003, he represented California's 43rd Congressional District for five terms.

During his time in Congress, Rep. Calvert has been a dedicated supporter of policies to make English the official language and reduce government multilingualism. He was a recipient of a U.S. English A in English award for his work in the 110th Congress.

The English Language Unity Act now has 105 bi-partisan co-sponsors from 35 states. If your member of Congress is not yet a co-sponsor of H.R. 997, click here to go to the U.S. English Action Center and request that your representative support the bill.
