Louisiana House Committee Approves Official English Measure

The Louisiana House Government Affairs Committee approved a resolution yesterday that urges the federal government to make English the official language of the United States. The committee voted 15-0 to approve Senate Concurrent Resolution 10 and send the measure to the entire House for consideration.

Introduced by Senator Buddy Shaw, S.C.R. 10 calls for Congress to take whatever actions necessary to make English the official language of the United States, including the passage of H.R. 997. The measure passed the Senate by a unanimous 33-0 vote on May 11, 2009.
