SYNOPSIS: FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to revise certain provisions regarding the testing of applicants for a driver license.

TEXT: BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. That Section 32-12-4 be amended to read as follows:
32-12-4. The Department of Public Safety or any person authorized by the secretary of the Department of Public Safety shall examine each applicant for a driver license. [D> Such <D] [A> THE <A] examination shall include a test of the applicant's eyesight, the applicant's ability to read and understand highway signs regulating, warning, and directing traffic, [A> THE APPLICANT'S ABILITY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND SIMPLE ENGLISH USED IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNS, AND <A] the applicant's knowledge of the traffic laws of this state [D> , and <D] [A> . THE EXAMINATION <A] shall include an actual demonstration of ability to exercise ordinary and reasonable control in the operation of a motor vehicle. The department shall make provision for giving an examination either in the county where the applicant resides or at a place adjacent thereto reasonably convenient to the applicant within not more than thirty days from the date the application is received. |
