U.S. English Commends Republican Party for Supporting the Unifying Role of the English LanguageAugust 29, 2012
Washington, DC—U.S. English Chairman Mauro E. Mujica today commended the Republican Party for its support of the unifying role of the English language in the 2012 Republican Platform. “I am delighted the Republican Party has once again recognized the important role the English language plays in unifying the citizens of the United States and encouraging immigrants to assimilate,” Chairman Mujica said. “I am hopeful that Democrats will follow in these footsteps and also take notice of the benefits that Official English has, not only on immigrants, but on all residents of the United States.” In a section titled “Reforming the Government to Serve the People,” the Republican Platform language reads, in part: “While we encourage the retention and transmission of heritage tongues, we support English as the nation’s official language, a unifying force essential for the educational and economic advancement of – not only immigrant communities – but also our nation as a whole.” The language in its entirety can be found on the GOP.com website. Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney and Vice-Presidential Nominee Congressman Paul Ryan have both spoken in support of recognizing English as the official language of the United States government. ### |
